The tests are not necessarily accurate. I tested two VPNs. The first VPN had a tested download speed of 6.87 mbps, and the second VPN had a tested download speed of 1.45 mbps. However, the second VPN actually downloaded files twice as fast as the first VPN.
Also, there may be some unethical business practices involved in the testing process. For example, if you are testing an AT&T server, the host of the test may be Comcast, and they sometimes may purposely trigger bad results just to make AT&T's quality look bad. There is evidence behind this because I tested the same VPNs with a different ISP hosting the tests. The networks earned extremely different results. In fact, the second VPN had a faster download speed than the first VPN the second time around.
If you really want to use Ookla, make sure you choose a fairly independent ISP to test your server speeds.
Also, on the side of the screen, there is a link that's labeled "We Love (insert software name here)." Sometimes the advertised software is potentially dangerous or is hosted on a domain that is potentially dangerous.
