Susan’s Place Transgender Resources: Heavily Dominated by Private Business Interests of the Sex Change Industry & Heavy Handed Need for Control. May 11, 2017 / Leave a comment / Edit Since, you may not be from the United States or from the American culture, I want to share an online article with you that gives insight into the priorities of Susan’s Place Transgender Resource Website and its owner. Susan gives an interview with local newspaper and website; ***** This article strongly suggests that there are significant conflicts of interests and the forum, as an advocacy website for the transgender community, is heavily dominated by private business interests of the sex change industry. Firstly, Susan herself & through her website, for the past twenty years, has been giving advice on surgical transitioning without her going through the SRS herself, which inspires questions regarding her level of indecision, sincerity, and life’s priorities regarding her own sexual transition and whether she or her website is qualified to provide psychological pear counseling and therapy. (Great questions regarding privacy intrusions the website has with this issue) Secondly, she speaks about her geographic location in the United States that she is from, Tennessee, and being fearful of community reaction to her surgical transition as a transexual as a result of the very conservative value system of the region that is quite possibly a reflection, to some degree, of her own values that she was raised with. This maybe the cause of her late sex change surgery, and not that she could not afford it! She was quite possibly, simply conflicted! Thirdly, she speaks of attempting to find comfort, in this very conservative community through Christian religion and church participation that she herself, indicates is also very conservative in its view of transsexuals, but has embraced. You, as a non American would likely not understand the implications to the cultural/religious value system associated with being a bible carrying Christian in the state of Tennessee, in the USA that is notorious for its focus on “law and order.” and conformity which is reflected in how Susan’s Place is run and operated with its aggressive rules and censorship. This also would suggest why medical, psychological, and surgical authorities have unusual influence on this website. Fourthly, the possible conflict of interest her and the Susan’s Place website has with sex reassignment and facial feminization surgical clinics, particularly with those in Bangkok, Thailand. This appears to be the reason that the website strictly prohibits and deletes any negative posts by its members about these SRS surgeons. Over the past twenty years of Susan’s Place’s existence on the web, as the largest transgender website, it has acted as the main conduit or point of information and contact for sex reassignment surgeons around the world. It has been a giant indirect or even a direct advertisement for these surgical clinics. Susan has just recently received a free sex reassignment surgery from one of the most popular sex change clinics in Bangkok, Thailand. Regardless of the questionable funding source, this certainly creates questions regarding her loyalties and objectivity when her website is providing information of these SRS clinics. Additionally, the website openly admits to employees of these medical clinics being on her website and using usernames that conceal this fact. Further, When speaking about the benefits of monetizing the website, she mentions her desire to have greater participation and involvement of these doctors and their surgical clinics. One of the more important purposes, if not the main purpose, of a transgender chat forum website is to get objective information and reviews on these very same sex change surgeons, which is quite open to exploitation on Susan’s Place, as seen in my case, when I visited it seeking advice on which surgeon to use for my facial feminization surgery. Fifthly, historically, the Susan’s Place website acting as a “Gatekeeper,” aggressively refusing to provide or allow others to speak about hormone dosage and discouraging what they call “self-medicating.” Further, its endorsing the psychiatric model of the transexual community. Equally, it has assertively advocated for the use of the Harry Benjamin Standard of Care, and now more recently WPATH (that many have seen as a gatekeeper, preventing or delaying sexual transitioning) of the mainstream medical community that generally has not been supportive of the transsexual communities’ right to transition. Additionally, in the article she clearly speaks about a conflict of interests regarding monetizing the site so to pursue more active paid involvement with psychologists. Given, that participants and contributors of the website use anonymous usernames, presumably including the psychologists, to hide their identity, is this completely disclosed to the casual visitor of the website that they are talking to a therapist or armchair therapist? If not, this would be a blatant violation of the universally recognized standards of full informed medical consent & discloser. And, given the admitted anonymous participation of the sex change surgeons on Susan’s Place, could this have privacy issues when choosing to use one of these surgeons that also anonymously use the website??? Could you be denied surgical transition, or even harmed as a result of what you say to these online therapist or armchair therapist? There is a clear pattern regarding my recent experience that says emphatically YES!!! There is a wanton lack of professionalism and transparency in combination with cyber manipulation at Susan’s Place Transgender Resources website that seems to be a reflection of the owner’s occupational, cultural and religious background.
