I used Trustpilot to get information on a company. The reviews seemed great and I finally decided to use their services. Turned out their services were terrible and so I wrote my own review on Trustpilot. The first one got flagged and disappeared because the company themselves deemed it to use defamatory terms. So I rewrote another review trying to not do the same mistake and more soberly recounted my experience, just so the TrustpilotCompliance Team would then remove it because as they said: "we've been unable to verify the authenticity of it". But no one asked me before to verify the authenticity of my review. Also, I wrote almost a 2 page long, very detailed review of my experience, so this to me seems very strange as to why my review seemed disingenuous to them.
They use that strategy over and over again and paying companies have almost 100% control over the reviews and what is published and what is removed so in no way can you relay on their "trust"score
Trustpilot utilizes false positive review for their paying customers. (They even use it themselves to get a better "happy customer" rating.)
All the fake reviewers gives a 5-star rating with 1-2 lines of (useless) feedback.
So scammer sites can suddenly appear as if they have a lot of happy customers when the reality is quite the opposite.
The sad part is that Google have partnered up with them to show the false ratings next to search results.
So you might end up buying an inferior product from a shady vendor.
I initially had the problem that my reviews on scams were being removed because of complaints from scammers.
After a long e-mail to TrustPilot explaining to them that scammers are abusing their website to promote their scams, and reminding them of their duty to consumers, my reviews were no longer being removed.
Instead, every time a scammer complains, my review very briefly goes invisible to other users. All I then need to do is edit the review to enable it again. This is fair.
With some scammers my reviews were being disabled and enabled back and forth, but perseverance paid off and the scammers eventually ran out of reasons for reporting my reviews.
If this happens to you, don't give up, just edit your review and it will enable again.
If you have knowledge of a scam, and don't report it, you'll be doing many innocent people a grave injustice, including yourself.
Cannot maths good. [sic] Manipulates star averages. Proof: one review on a site with one star is "averaged" to 3 stars. No reviews prior to that review.
trustpilot.com is safe and reliable for providing feedback for users as a reference before purchasing or using products. It helps me a lot! I want to say thank you!
100% Scam.
