People have obviously been using the XRL metamark service to hide bad links, I have used the webpage and service for a very long time to shorten URLs to a respectable length. Bear in mind that its not the provider, but the users that are giving this service a bad reputation....

He is Perl developer, ***** webmaster, and a Perl Foundation member. His website > ***** email > ***** ................................. metamark.net is a URL database, something like TinyURL. The way it works is like this: Somebody enters a long URL. If that is already in the database, the computer issues the existing token. If it is not in the database, the computer generates a new URL. It is purely controlled by software, there is no human intervention. Anyone can use these URL compression services, and spammers love them. Spammers need to hide their domain names from spam filters, and this is one way to do it. So, if you get a spam with a link like > hxxp://iamascammer.c/pqrst then report it to the site owner. According to web standards, this should be a standard email > abuse@ adding on the domain name. email addresses that I have found to work, mostly > abuse@ ... webmaster@ ... admin@ ... postmaster@ ...
