Without purchasing one of Alexa's expensive Plans, websites are systematically underrated and given a low ranking. They suggest that their ranking is authoritative and based on visitor statistics, which isn't the case, simply because they don't measure all rated websites. In fact, they force you to purchase their plans, if you want to be on their Alexa Ranking with actual statistics, since they rate websites even if the owner doesn't want to or objects, for instance when a (free) statistics service (like StatCounter) is already in use.
Alexa's business model is a clear fraud. Thank you not, Alexa/Amazon.
Honestly, I can't imagine anyone trusting Alexa. They might very well be victims of the Consumer-Stockholm-Syndrome. Snap out of it people!

Provides useful information on site rankings. The toolbar is supposed to track you, that's how they get their data for the rankings. As long as you download the tool bar from their site, it's safe. This is an ***** company, so it's safe.
