I have had nothing but a good experience from this app and this website. The "research" thing can be turned off while installing. It's all good. As for the site - which is what WOT is about isn't it? It is all good. EVERY thing that it adds (toolbar etc) is able to be turned off - which I have. I can't see a single valid complaint listed here. WOT ratings are about the website anyway - aren't they? Not a software review tool

Don't know what's up with all the negative ratings; Digsby's a legitimate IM/email/social networking program. It's very convenient, so far, for keeping up with everything going on across all my accounts and there are a lot of options for what you want to participate in/use.

It's a great IM all-in-one nicely looking software...Only thing to care for should be when installing to disable those "extra" software etc. (Btw, i heard that you can click on the "link not working? try this one" and it won't have that extra software on installer, try that out). And they fixed that option that was hidden before, for the research module, it seems that it's disabled by default and you can check if it is turned on (it uses your cpu when your pc is idle for some time and it stops when you're not afk anymore, not needed if you ask me) by going into tools -> preferences -> research module, and disable that research module if it is turned on.. So it's better than before, safe to use :)

Digsby installs two browser plugins adds tool bars to the browser, and installs another utility program all without (1) letting the user know all this extra (and possibly unwanted) changes will be made, and (2) without giving the use the option to opt out of these changes. The "Digsby Donate" popup shows up in random browser windows and does not seem to want to go away. This type of behavior is typical of spamware and spyware, not the behavior of reputable utility programs. I ended up uninstalling as much of this trash as I could, just on general principles.

Since there is not netural option in WOT (no yellow option for comments), I will rate this "other". This program is perfectly safe to use and is definitely underrated. You just have to make sure that you untick ALL the crapware at install. This program uses a server to operate, and, unless it can connect to this server, it will not work. It is a hosted app (it uses a server). The servers need money, and the crapware that it asks you to install helps fund their servers. They should be using other methods of funding, but this is what they are doing. If the program was p2p (does not rely on a server) it would probably not have all this crapware, but then it would bloat your system by starting a webserver program. All-in-all, this is a good program. Just wish it were open-source ;) PS: I was not paid to write this review. it is my own words.

Digsby sounded like a good idea, watched their vid about how it's IM + Social + Email, and that sounds pretty handy. Unfortunately they literally hound you over support. During the install alone you have to decline out of 4 different things, (1) Bing toolbar (2) Digsby search by Google (3) Digsby home page by Google (4) A "research module" where I'm pretty sure you volunteer your idle CPU and bandwidth to a company and Digsby gets a monetary kick back. THEN you have to deal with animated ad banners in your chat window. Unless you can handle that much hassle AND animated ads in your chat window at all times, I'd suggest going somewhere else.

There is a lot of reputable security and maintenance software out there that also offers automated user data feedback, as long as it is optional I don't see the problem either. I have not tested this software yet so no rating from me until I tested it for a while. It is always good to check back with the user ratings for rating details about certain websites. Rather a false positive than a protection leak.

Here's my 2 cents: I've used Digsby in the past but with a brand new computer I was going to install it. During the install, after being asked to install a second adware/spyware-type of application I closed the installer and will use another program. First was a Bing toolbar, second was a registry 'booster.' I trust that Digsby itself remains a quality application however bundling the installer with crapware does not bode well with me.

Ugh, here we go. Everyone who has commented on this software complaining about spyware/adware: The packages included with Digsby are NOT spyware OR adware. The basis of this is that the installation of the packages are OPTIONAL. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO INSTALL THEM. The software is included from vendors that sponsor Digsby. Do you know what that means? These vendors are paying the people that make Digsby, so that it will remain FREE. Understand yet?! If it weren't for the free SOFTWARE(not crapware) that comes with Digsby, we, the users, would have to PAY for it!! If it were indeed crapware, it would install regardless of user input. For those of you who believe this is what happened to you, check the other softwares you have installed recently. Make sure you use custom installation, and uncheck everything that doesn't pertain to Digsby its self. See? Optional. Do the process over after uninstalling the software(s), and see for your self. If it happens again, you are doing something wrong, but even so, go to the control panel in windows, and UNINSTALL IT YOU NINNY. With that said, Digsby is a fantastic piece of software, with many customizable options available for its users. It's less of a resource hog than other multi-client messengers, like pidgin and Trillian. I haven't had nearly the number of errors or problems that I have had with other messengers in the past. Also, the vendor software installation setup is shown, with the option to opt out if you don't want it installed, and in the event it does install, it's easily removed via the control panel in windows.
