I've played this game for many years. Dofus is a French MMO game that requires a subscription for extended playing and has a young and mid-aged community. Most children who play only stay a short time, and most 20+ players remain for several years (indefinitely). The community forum is harsh and I would strongly advise that you stay away from the user forum and do not post any comments on the web site, but the in-game community is mostly friendly. As is usual with MMO games, in-game profanity censoring is customizable. There is not an abundance of profanity, but it typically happens when people get frustrated... The game involves an abundance of "grinding", or repeating a single activity, although you have a nice variety of activities in the game, and you can even try hosting your own social events. But the game's activities can result in a great deal of frustration. The game can be pretty fun when played in moderation. I have had a single bad experience which provoked me to write this review, however. The last time I tried purchasing the game's subscription currency, Ogrines, using real money via a credit card, my credit card number was stolen from the web site. I know this to be true. The web servers are unreliable because this company experiences an overabundance of hacking and DDoS attempts, mostly from a location in China. The game suffers enormously from in-game "bots", as it has for many years, but the company is adamant about how it chooses to regulate its player base: with a few community managers and a handful of moderators. The english community manager is friendly, but the moderators have a tendency to frustrate the users. I would generally stay away from the dofus.com web site, but playing the game freely and via subscription is alright if you subscribe via the game's primary currency, "kamas". If you choose to spend real money on this game, you should definitely keep a close watch on your credit card or bank account activity. Do not use a credit or debit card account whose information you mind being stolen. Also, customer service really does not exist for this game, unless you live in France. If you have a problem, politely nag the english community manager, Izmar, or if you live in France, maybe you can manage to submit your ticket in French to their understaffed, exclusively French, support. Ankamian humor is a little dry and pokes fun at many cultural themes, but since it also contains an abundance of sexual innuendos, this game honestly is not suitable for players under adult age.
