Good for keeping in touch with friends, near and far at any given moment. Set privacy for friends only and things are fine. Avoid apps, such as games, polls, etc that require permission. (up to the user) Just like anything in life, be smart, be safe.

Can be good for social networking if you are intelligent about what information you put on it and careful about who you share it with, but lots of risky links, "hacked" accounts (really just from people foolishly entering their passwords in bogus mirror sites) posting malicious content... it can be a minefield for children and Internet n00bs. Avoid clicking suspicious links and keep an eye on your privacy settings (which Facebook changes often, and sometimes resets to less restrictive levels) and you'll be okay.

OMG.. The amount of scams are unbearable... "like this page and enter details and get 5 million fb credits for free!!!" and pages like this. I suppose the rest is okay
