I just learned that advertisers are given access to life event information, like engagements for example, where they detect discussion of someone's engagement, after which the engaged person and all their friends are blasted with marriage-and-wedding related ads. This is a particularly creepy way of violating facebook users privacy.

The best social networking website, hands down. But be careful of the way you set your privacy settings; make sure everything is set to "Friends Only", don't run any Facebook applications that present a privacy risk (they are required to outline what they do with your information before you download them), and don't friend random people that you don't know. Common sense stuff, really.

Various people keep signing up for FB using an email address belonging to me. The "I did not sign up" links in emails very rarely work. It's easier to reset password and delete the account. Resetting password is quick as FB detects if you're logged into a particular email - even though no permission to do so was ever given. Also, you may get locked out of your account if you refuse to give FB a phone number. Appears to be a creepy and badly managed site.

Stuck. Facebook won't let me log in anymore without adding a phone number and verification this way. I refuse to give them my phone number. This is where I draw the line. What has the Internet come to? Heaven knows what more information will they require you to give next in the years to come. Maybe a DNA sample?!
