I signed the petition although I find it hard to believe that Oracle will even acknowledge a petition, let alone honor a petition by complying with the demands of a petition. I would like to believe that once something is released to Open Source that it can not be withdrawn from Open source, but the true test must be in a competent court. I see three possible outcomes, listed in my order of preference: 1; Oracle never had any intention of enforcing any claims on Sun's Open Source projects and will release it to a competent entity or retain it as a supported Open Source project of its own 2; Oracle is ambivalent about Sun's Open Source projects and will release Sun's Open Source projects rather than go to court over Open Source 3; Oracle is serious about retaining Sun's Open Source projects as its own and will go to court to retain ownership NOTE: I say Open Source rather than name any individual Open Source project because I believe the fate of all Open Source projects may follow the fate of any one Open Source project if that Open Source project is seriously challenged.
