Reddit is the front page of the internet, and that comes with both the good and the bad. If you're a news junkie, this is like an addictive drug, children should use caution as there is literally EVERYTHING here.

This website itself is safe, and actually pretty cool when used correctly. But the NSFW system isn't very effective, as anybody can just click a button (which is right in plain sight!) to access adult content, such as HARDCORE PORNOGRAPHY.

Great site, used for sharing links and discussing them. Also has pictures on. Things aren't suitable for younger viewers are almost always labelled as "NSFW" literally standing for "Not Safe For Work".
The website is made up of "subreddits" which are essentially Facebook Groups on steroids; anyone can make a community about anything ranging from cute animal pictures (/r/aww) to CS:GO trading (/r/GlobalOffensiveTrade). Some subreddits are private, and you must be invited to join, whereas most are public.
Similar to "likes" on other websites, you receive "karma" on Reddit. People tend to love karma, and many will do anything to get a high score. Just be aware of that as you may see some people who repost and repost to rack up karma.
There are also lots of inside jokes specific to the website; if you are unsure what a reference means however, /r/OutOfTheLoop has you covered.

Admins of site have lied to users frequently about their views on 'welcome' content and frequently delete posts that disagree with them. In addition to this, many moderators on this site will ban users for what are rather innocuous comments, or for disagreements, or for the crime of posting to a forum they disagree with. Overall, this site is controlled by liars, and I would NOT recommend making an account on this site.

There are many different subreddits that some of them are very useful and good and some are not suitable for children. There might be some hate speech in the comments as well, but they are usually removed by moderators.
It's a good website overall.
