Makes Christianity and the Bible look foolish. You can often gauge these sites by how accurately they portray their opponents, I'll give four outstanding examples: Atheists, Islam, LDS, and JWs. This site claims that "There is no question man and dinosaurs lived together," based upon the depiction of dragons in old tapestries. They also use many arguments in favor of Creation that don't hold up to scrutiny ( e.g. That Saturn is losing its rings - ***** ) Many of their points are valid, but these same points can be found in better sites. -They also asset that the basis of atheism is a active faith in the abilities of "random chance", when this isn't the case at all. Gradual accumulation -their actual belief, has definite weaknesses that ought to be pointed out, but by using this staw man it just elicits contempt, and doesn't help anyone. This site also claims that "Allah" is a false God, although it is only the arabic word for God. In fact, older Koran translations do not even use the term "allah", but "God", instead (e.g. M. Pickthall, and the 1st edition A.Y. Ali). It would be more accurate for them to say that the Muslims have a erroneous view of God, but the other way of saying it is easier to get an emotional response, and is also much more common on this sort of site. That said, they avoided most of the fake stuff you usually encounter (such as Allah being a moon god, or the Koran being written by Augustine of Hippo) which is commendable. Their coverage of the Mormons mixes facts with falsehood, and generally they either give no citations, or cite obscure (in many cases out of date) sources, rather than the actual 'scriptures' that LDS use. For instance, it is true that Mormons believe that Michael and Adam are the same (D&C 27:11, 107:54, 128:21, etc.) but it is not true that the BoM makes positive references to "familiar spirits", the only occurrences I was able to find (2 Nephi 18:19 and 2 Nephi 26:16) ascribe a NEGATIVE connotation. It is also untrue that Mormons believe in a "starbase Kolob", what their website says it that Kolob is "The star nearest the throne of God (Abr. 3:2–3, 9)." They also claimed that Smith " was killed during a gun battle in which he himself killed two men and wounded a third. " According to wikipedia, smith was in jail when he was killed. Since when are prisoners given guns, especially since a Mormon mob was expected to come and try to rescue this particular prisoner? -They also point out that there are "hundreds" of sects of Mormonism. But this isn't really a valid criticism, as the main branch (those that any of us are likely to encounter) has 14 million adherents, while the SECOND largest sect has 250,000. Even that is unusual, most sects have less than 15,000 members. (see ***** ) -They took up the subject of Mormonism with a definite agenda, and failed provide any grand insights unavailable elsewhere, while also mixing errors and half-truths. They also take pot-shots at Jehovah's Witnesses and since these were particularly inept, I'll devote more space to them. A good starting example:"Gen. 28:13 NWT "and look! there was JEHOVAH the God of Abraham..."NOTE: Jehovah was not known as Jehovah until the time of Moses; over 300 years AFTER Abraham died (Exod. 6:3). This is an obvious mistranslation in the NWT, since Jehovah was not known by that name in Abraham's time." -Simply consulting an Interlinear Hebrew Bible, or the KJV usage of "LORD" in all caps, will show that the tetragram occurs before Abraham was alive. What Exodus 6:3 refers to is the EXPLANATION of God's name, not the revealing of the tetragram itself. They also fail to recognize that JWs distinguish between "Gehenna" and "Sheol/Hades" and then criticize them for failing to make a distinction between the two. This is the height of incompetence. -They asset that Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus was given a body of "gasses". Outside of evangelical websites, I've found nothing to corroborate this. It seems to be another straw man. -They also point to Jesus parable of the Rich man and Lazarus, confidently stating that "You probably will not get through the total passage before the Jehovah's Witness becomes undone. This will greatly shock him." ON THE CONTRARY, this passage was covered by the WT as early as the 1800s, as have the SDA and any other Annihilationist denomination. Its dishonest to accept it as a literal description where it fits the torment doctrine, and then see it as figurative in the parts that make no sense at all, such as receiving salvation just for being poor, sitting in Abraham's bosom, or that Hell is visible from Heaven, or that a drop of water on his tongue would be of any help. This parable is precisely that -a parable. -He closes with this assertion: "The gospel is the DEATH, BURIAL AND RESURRECTION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, according to the scriptures. (1 Cor. 15:1-4).THIS IS NOT THE JEHOVAH'S WITNESS GOSPEL"- I was unable to find, not merely in JW sources, but in the material HE HIMSELF presented, anything that would indicate that JWs "don't believe in" death, burial and resurrection. -I wasn't able to find any criticisms that weren't either straw men, petty criticisms, or ignorance of what their opponent is trying to say. (Perhaps even actively imagining it up for him... ) This website presents information that isn't factual along with information that is. Most of it has no citations for support whatsoever, and is largely concerned with obscure criticisms of any group aside from their own, apparently without making even the slightest effort of checking facts. This site is untrustworthy and, in my opinion, a waste of time. Nonetheless, there are zero viruses, and no explicit images.
