Is dell.com Safe?

In my experience, Dell makes poor quality computers (I've seen plenty of problems with everything from cheap consumer machines to mid-range business ones). I now refuse to recommend them for anything. If you need a computer, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! You won't regret it.

Wow this computer does everything but dance, or anything else computers are not supposed to do. If you need tech support, say something like My computer freezes. You may be on hold for up to 30 minutes. If there are other issues, you need to describe them all. Then you'll find you were transferred to the wrong dept. 50% chance of another long hold, but you need to stay by the computer in case they need you to do something. 75% chance that, once again you've been transferred to the wrong place again. If you have a battery operated phone, it will quite likely be dead while you are going from one wrong dept. to another and having to tell a story that keeps getting longer to each tech. When you finally get to the right dept. and say your computer freezes, you will probably be encouraged to buy something totally irrelevant. In my case, allI wanted was a hard copy of my invoice as I don't have a working printer. I ended up begging and finally got a copy on my email, because policy is no invoices after 48 hours from date of purchase. I am used to invoices arriving with my product, so saw no reason to call before I even had the computer. Nevermind that I am terminally ill and usually cannot drive to a library. If I say that when I type I get gibberish, the computer rewrites, overtypes, and Back to all the wonderful extras, super warranties etc., well they neglected to tell you that to get them, you have to buy each one. I don't know how that equals comes with the computer, but before you get cut off. you can expect a lame excuse or abuse, depending on who you get. After about 15 agents, I have only encountered 2 that were even nice. They also don't tell you that your 21 days to return it start on the day it ships, so it's really 2 weeks or less. So you had best use the computer and do nothing else until you are either satisfied that it works, or you found a problem. In my case, it was unusable out of the box. This has nothing to do with the warranty, which doesn't cover much of anything. Had I known that to get the computer I wanted I had to pay what a Mac would cost: but family politics would go ballistic if I returned it. If i say that I get gibberish, of course it's my fault and I am once again in the wrong dept. I tell the next tech and like all the others, I say i get gibberish, I get an aggressive sales pitch for accidental dropping, spilling, etc. one of the many features that come with the computer. I have 21 days from the day it shipped to buy it for $69.00. This has been such a nightmare; I was told just turn it on and start computing. Ha! Save yourself a lot of grief. It appears that they were once highly thought of, but that appears to have changed. Had I not already been totally ripped off by another company, I had to hurry. STAY AWAY.
