In short: it's a good place if you are careful. Just like the rest of the internet.
But... There is not much of privacy in social medias. People should think and read the Terms of Service carefully before joining social media sites and they rarely do. Especially I think this is not a place for children who often don't have the knowledge to be careful with places like this.
Facebook also has a lot of privacy issues considering how the privacy settings have been spread in many places. If there is a really simple way to put everything hidden from somebody I don't know I haven't found it.
The site contains a certain customer site named "mood rainbow" in English, "Stimmungs-Regenbogen" in German. If you want to share your mood, you HAVE to allow this app access to most of your personal data, it posts on your personal site, timeline, etc.
I can only say: Don't use this site ! Its data regulations are poor in my opinion !!!
Facebook is spyware, pure and simple. Its goal is not to provide communication services but to track and store information about individuals (regardless of their opt-in status on the site) and to sell advertising. Along with Google, it is one of the most invasive and privacy-hostile sites currently operating. Anybody who tries to tell you otherwise is completely clueless.
As entertaining Facebook can be, do be careful. Some applications (such as Farmville) can send an email to your email box for gifts and what not and I don't normally click them. Plus some people may actually be stupid enough to upload porn, and if your child is on Facebook, and they do have that person on their friendslist, they are indeed bound to see it.
Facebook is amazing, as long as you are not adding random people, clicking on links that look sketchy, and put all your information on the sight. Just think of it as nothing is private online... :)
People post disgusting pictures and write bad stuff about crap. Also some of the apps spam you which is really annoying.I have blocked facebook from my e-mail to stop spamming me!
A deceitful trick. Use hot pictures. You was deceived into click it and go to the site that is nothing related. Only picture is true. The link is fake.
I've never signed up to facebook, have no intention of doing so, and could probably count on one hand the number of times I've even visited it. So...why are their trackers and cookies following me around on the internet? (I have Firefox add-ons that show stuff like this - it's not just paranoia). Creepy.
