I heard a rumour about FB that they save all profiles and will not delete them. So dont trust them easily.
Was Datenschutz anbelangt ist schon jeder für sich selbst verantwortlich. Alles kann "veröffentlicht" werden oder auch nicht.
Ob es nun ein Gerücht ist, oder nicht, dass Facebook alle Profil-Informationen speichert auch wenn man sein Profil löscht, weiß ich nicht. Darauf verlassen würde ich mich aber nicht.

I'm seeing a new flurry of Pharmacy Spam. While the throwaway address I gave to Facebook can filter it out, it's worth a warning to others: I traced its source to one of the quiz providers/applications, not Facebook itself.

Facebook is like crack the first few (many) times you log in. It is a great way to keep in touch with old friends. If you are careful, it is a fairly safe site. You do have to be careful which applications you use as they use your profile info on there.
As for child safety, Watch your kids. Facebook would be a great way for pedophiles to exploit children. Heck, Facebook would be a great way for any fraudulent person to exploit another in some way. I am not slamming Facebook in any way, just saying that you need to be careful when you are on any social networking site.
