They said I could view the historical record if I create a free account, then after signing up for an account, it still blocked the information unless I paid nearly GBP 50 for a subscription.

I did a lot of research prior to registering with this site but only came up with what was available freely in the public domain, they claimed to be able to provide all sorts of information not available of free searches, so I paid my money and joined. They gave me exactly the same information I had already got from the same sources, only they charged me for the privilege! I cancelled my subscription and complained, demanding a refund, so far no-one from customer services has contacted me however they do send spam emails every week saying some new records have been added..... Rubbish! Stay away from this website......

The site at first leads you to believe that they have the majority of the war records for British soldiers. However, they do not. You may do a search for free, but the information you get from the search is usually not enough to determine if the results pertain to your ancestor. They want you to register to find out. AFTER you have registered, you find out that you need to pay to get access. After you pay, you find a notice, In fine print, that they automatically charge you each month unless you go to your account settings and cancel automatic renewal. They count on people not reading the fine print. You have a low chance of the records found being pertinent to your ancestry, since the database covers medieval times to present and only lists about 4 million, and I have read many reviews from dissatisfied customers who felt that they have been tricked into believing that their ancestors were in the database. Fortunately, I found my ancestor, but the site only listed the medal and clasps he had won; it did not list dates of enlistment or discharge or anything else about him. In short, I didn't see anything they did illegally, but I saw many deceptive practices.
