Is foursquare.com Safe?

Trustworthiness: FourSquare can be thought of as the sum of its users' experiences, much like Web of Trust. Those experiences are left in the form of "tips" which can be agreed with or disagreed with, with those most agreed with rising to the top. Any factual information that is incorrect is easily flagged and swiftly corrected - I have utilised this mechanism in the past as the name of my favourite cafe used to be misspelt, and is no longer. Rating: Excellent. Vendor reliability: I am not a customer of FourSquare Labs, Inc. Rating: Not rated. Privacy: I do not have enough information to fairly rate FourSquare Labs, Inc. by this criterion. My experience has been overall positive and privacy controls seem to be good. My FourSquare account is linked with my Facebook account and my checkins can be posted to Facebook, but this does not happen by default - it must be toggled on for each checkin. This is configurable within the mobile app or on the website. Having said that, I do not know how my information is shared beyond the settings I select, so it would be unfair of me to give a rating without knowing all the facts. Rating: Not rated. Child Safety: There is no adult content in the FourSquare network. Comments containing profanity, even, are rare. Rating: Excellent. Category: FourSquare is primarily a game, but the new Discover features let you find places you've never been before. Personally, I have discovered two local parks I didn't even know existed before loading FourSquare onto my mobile device. Although "good site", "entertaining" and "child friendly" also apply, my categorisation is "Useful, informative" for this reason.

The website is based off social-networking and allows users to "check-in" into venues (Locations, Buildings etc) and basically play a game where users can collect badges, points, view stats and submit tips about the venues. It's mainly for mobile use only but anyone with a PC and Internet access can "check-in" to a location as long as it's legit.
