Notice that none of the poor reviews mention actual site security problems. Rather, they all seem to come from people who are so aggrieved by Hassan's line of work that they feel a need to smear his reputation, and that none offer any evidence to back up their criticism.

This site has an artificially low rating, most likely because its author, Steven Hassan, is involved in a controversial line of work- deprogramming people from high-control cults. This unfortunately includes a non-zero percentage of organized christian cults in the US (if calling christianity a cult offends you, just assume I'm applying it in the french usage, where 'culte' just means religion. There, now you can let go of your pearls.) Long story short, Hassan has decades of work helping people abandon magical thinking and gain control of their own mind and life. It naturally stirs up controversy because certain cults can be very... cognizant... of the threat that open sources like this pose to their shared fiction. So as a response to that, you will have many WOT users, often relatively young accounts, giving 1-star ratings. Because any avenue of discrediting is worth following through on if your organization's existence relies on controlling the way your followers think.

For the people giving this 1 star. This is precisely the place that can help you or help the people that care about you to help you in a constructive way. also saying it has nudity and adult content is not helpful to people. we get it, you don't like new information.

I am looking forward to getting his book. Looks like the he has some pretty positive reviews on Amazon. This site is good. Good and helpful informaiton. Anyone rating it low or with viruses is simply lying. Likely those rating it low are members of the cult of Scientology or some other mental prison.

Boston counselor who attempts to help people who believe they have been victimized by "cults" He seems well intentioned, but strays into the name calling business. It is a very fine line i.e. when you say TM is okay but the organization is not. I used to be in TM and now pursue other avenues of self-awareness. I never felt abused by them. However, they are a profit making organization and need money and will urge you to join them and pay. I also frequented Sc*^t*l*gy - and they apply a whole nother level of pressure. There is really no comparison, Still I applaud Steve for his efforts and wish him well.

This is a valuable service, and it's quite clear that some Cult members do not like the fact their Cult is one of those that Mr. Hassan helps people escape from. Anybody who actively helps people recover from the very real after-effects of being in a Cult deserves recognition and praise.

These are the times when I wonder about the effectiveness of WOT. This site is perfectly safe, doesn't mine your info, and has nothing that is inappropriate for children. The information is either published in psychiatric journals, or is written and/or approved by the site owner, who seems to be a legitimate expert.
