Site for free hosting of open-source projects as Git repositories, including issue tracking and forking/pull request features, as well as personal or project websites. Private repositories require a paid subscription. This is a site where users can submit their own content, which might not be virus-free, suitable for young children or your boss. In practice most content is suitable for any age and safe for work, and malicious software is rare. (The TOS technically forbid use by people under the age of 13 years. Although GitHub may remove material that they deem inappropriate, they are not obligated to do so; you should still be at least a little cautious.)

UPDATE from April 2014 GitHub is now splitting into github.com & github.io. github.com will contain only official GitHub pages, while *.github.io will be for the GitHub customer sites. At this time Google Safe Browsing still lists 89 of github.com's 500k+ pages as having 1148trojans, 512viruses & 167exploits. During this transition I would expect GitHubs'safety to improve, but until then the site remains as suspicious due to the third party customers. Treat each third party with suspicion until your happy to proceed.
