I use google mostly for entertainment purposes so my searches can be quite odd at times so though they may keep a search history it doesn't faze me as they will just get confused by my searching habits.

some links in browser are completely and annoyingly irrelevant to what you are searching for.

Google is a very good search engine, but they seem to be tracking everything user's are doing. I can only imagine that it is what the others have said. They data mining our usage, either to sell the information to third parties, or to direct target us with all those pop ups. The newest market for them seems to be You Tube, and is very annoying.

Google tracks your surf/search habits, on all Google sites, and all sites who use Google Analytics.
They use cookies that won't expire till 2035.
They use this info to pour more ads intot your searching experience. Its bad. It might make them some money but it makes people frustrated a lot.

Google is just amazing. This search engine get's you what you need and quickly. By far the best search engine available. Their secondary services, such as maps, mail, and documents are simply the most valuable free tools on the internet.
