Makers of Web Companion, which is supposed to secure your browser. What it does is prevent trustworthy programs from running, to include Microsoft Direct Access and SCCM. Install it and you can forget browsing anywhere. It's software such as this that wastes time and money. It comes close, if not hitting the target, of the definition of malware. Beware.

This website is owned and operated by LavaSoft. Provides a decent anti-virus/anti-spyware program based on the VIPRE (developed by Sunbelt Software) engine. Trusted by reputable companies such as VirusTotal and Microsoft. It is a member of the Microsoft Active Protections Program (MAPP). Safe website and products, recommended.

Used Ada-ware free for years without a problem. Was running Essentials on XP Pro when I decided to update the current free version without real time protection and hit the Pro free version for 30 days by error. Very easy mistake to make. Now I had two virus protection schemes running at the same time. MY PC ground to almost a complete stop. Took the better part of an hour to shut it down. After booting up, I ran "restore" to get rid of it before things got clogged up again. Not happy with the way Ad-aware, as it appears to me, to have intentionally set a trap for the unwary. For me, one strike and you are out especially when PCs are involved.

Additionally to Ad-Aware Free many editorships recommend Avira Antivir Personal Free Antivirus. Antivir found viruses, which Ad-Aware did not find.
