Is memtest86.com Safe?

I googled for memtest86 diagnostic software to check to see that the new computer that I had just built was performing properly. and I found this site--www.memtest86.com. I downloaded the Iso file, burned the bootable disk, and ran the test. As soon as the "block move" test started, the screen turned red with error messages of failure. I ran the test again and let it run until it stopped with total block move errors of more than 1,031,000. I ran the test in two older computers that I have, and the test ran fine--it was only in the new computer with an AMD Phenom II 1090T black 6 core processor that the test gave errors. I bought different memory that was on the qualified vendors list for the new Asus M4A89TD Pro motherboard that I was using, and got the same exact number of block move errors as before. I contacted Asus tech support and was told that it was likely that the motherboard was defective. I exchanged the motherboard for one of the same make and model, and got the same number of the same type of errors. Again I contacted Asus, and this time I escalated the problem to a tech support supervisor, and we both agreed that this second motherboard was defective because there were indications of additional defects in the motherboard besides the block move errors. While waiting for the third replacement of the motherboard, I contacted AMD CPU tech support and was told that it was likely that the problem was in the CPU; AMD sent me a prepaid label, and I sent the CPU to them. AMD tested the CPU extensively for about two weeks and could not find anything wrong. At this point I asked the AMD technician what version of memtest86 he was using in his testing, and he told me that it was version 4.1. I had downloaded version 4.0 from www.memtest86.com because it was the latest version available at this website. I googled for memtest86 version 4.1 and found it at www.memtest86.org--which turned out to be the legitimate website for downloading memtest86. I downloaded versions 4.1 and versions 4.2, and each of them ran for more than a day continuously with no error. I informed both AMD and Asus tech support about the memtest86 malware; neither of them had had any idea that there was a bad version of memtest86 circulating on the web. They expressed deep appreciation for the information I gave them because now that they know, they can possibly prevent the return of perfectly good motherboards and CPU's if anyone has the same problem that I had.
