The moderators of this forum allow sexist and racist rhetoric to go on in the forum without interruption. The things that were posted, almost on a daily basis, were vile and repulsive and the moderators took a "hands off" approach to its existence. Even laughing along and encouraging this type of behavior. This is primarily a forum of men-- a space where women are objectified, treated abusively, and talked to degradingly. In this day and age- this experience has been shocking to me. I had had enough when a full page of postings from various members (males) began using disgusting masturbatory language in a post called "What I like in a Woman," the post was disgusting and disturbing. When I complained in this forum thread that this was sexist, I was attacked verbally, brutally by the men that had posted this. I was told It was "simple joking"- I tried to explain that re-framing this type of language/ images to that of merely " joking" was no excuse for sexism. The moderators allowed this to go on for days. Them attacking, me trying to defend myself. (I was on this forum for a year and a half, out of the thousands that frequent this site, only a handful of women routinely posted. The reason is clear- it is an antagonistic environment for women.) I reported 6 blatant sexist remarks and 1 racist remark. I openly questioned on the thread why the moderators were doing nothing. The thread was finally shut down. The lead moderator came on the forum the next day and rallied behind the men who had posted the sexist and racist material. He openly called me "sensitive," stated that I was instigating dissension, and had "thrown a hissy fit." When I attempted to get him to admit that the thread had been shut down because it was, indeed, sexist and racist, he refused to do so and banned me from the site. I am warning you, do not let your children be a member of this forum. If you are a woman who abhors sexism and racism, do not join this forum. It is not a problem of the males who are members, but a top-down problem: the owner of the website and the moderators that he has moderating the site. They promote an environment of violence and abuse against women and minorities. It is an ugly place.
