I've used the calculator tools for a few years now. I have gone to a financial planner a few times but between visits I use these tools to make sure i'm on track with my plans. I take some of the interesting articles I find to share with my planner as well.
I've been reading NR's articles for a few months now. My old job didn't help much with our retirement planning so I hadn't done anything until I left that job to start my own company. A friend introduced me to this site and I'm starting to make up for all the time I lost with no plan.
My wife and I both check in every few weeks to read the new articles they post on retirement planning. We're hoping to retire early and a lot of the success we've had probably came from what we've learned on this site.
I use New Retirement's calculator tool every few months to track my progress towards my retirement goals. I do use a few different retirement calculators out there as well but this one does offer some features the others don't have. The ladies and gentlemen at New Retirement are doing something great and seeing how much more they offer on their site and how much their blog following has grown is a testament to the quality content they're delivering.
New Retirement is great. I've been using their blog to help with my retirement planning for years now. They don't offer any products that they're trying to sell you so it's really all about educating their users.
The New Retirement site helped me come around to getting a reverse mortgage for my house, which before new retirement, I saw as something alike to a deal with the devil himself. The site needs a face lift, no doubt, but the content that is being pushed through each and every day is anything but unhelpful. I think I remember watching a video on reverse mortgages with a kid talking, and although it may not have been the highest production quality video, it's reassuring that new retirement is willing to hire younger people -- portraying them to be a very community-oriented company. I have been going on every 3 weeks or so for the last few years to catch up on any articles that seem interesting, and I highly recommend everyone does the same. I do wish they post more editorial, more ethically-messy, riskier and opinionated, and of course, dangerous articles with zest; of a persuasive type. Other than that, I have come to appreciate new retirement, and I hope that you do, too.
It was really nice to be able to finally find a tool like this. I wasn't really sure where to start, but after stumbling upon New Retirement, I felt like I was in good hands. Although I'm not quite yet ready, this is something useful for me to use for my parents and something to recommend to other friends/family.
One of my professors used new retirement's page to pretty much teach our entire retirement and insurance planning course. I showed this to my parents who weren't the greatest with money and it seems like the calculators helped them realize they weren't financially ready and all the content helped them get on the right track. Wanted to write a review of this awesome resource so it might help someone else in the future.
I really enjoy using NewRetirement.com. As someone with years of experience in the financial industry, I was excited to find a free retirement planning tool that was up to par with the very expensive ones I was used to using in the office for my firm's clients.
