Is secondlife.com Safe?

Second life is changing many things and one of the larger changes going on is age verification methods.The site is now implementing a plan to have a identification of some sort (depending on where in the world you are from) checked against public records. I have faith that if this process has any bugs that SL will find and work them out. You will not be able to enter an non-suitable sims (areas) unless you are age-verified and met the requirements.

I am on Second Life for 2 years. It is the only place I know where we can lose everything we earned, our land, our inventory, even regions we bought if we KNOW there are minors there and we don't report them. AND, there is also a TEEN grid only for kids, with supervision. and parents should always keep in mind THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR KIDS... :) Have a nice day :)

I've read articles about second life in books and other magazines. But the truth is is in Second Life, you can spend real money. And there are real company's on Second Life. Imagine your kid walking into a virtual mall and looking at suggestive content in the mall with no parental control over him. And who would want to be a 2 inch tall figure and have a 1/2 inch lamp on their screen. The truth is, second life should be meant for adults that want to spend real money on virtual objects. And what would happen if the company's computer crashed. Your $100,000 house just met the wall between virtual and reality.

SL is an online role-playing game for ADULTS. There is a teen version if you have children. Sex and other topics that are not child-friendly are very easily found. That said, it is easy for adults to totally avoid those places/events and have a wonderful time meeting and relating to people all over the world.

As a resident who joined in 2003, I would comment that SL is an entertaining place at first, but it inevitably gets boring and extremely frustrating after a year or so due to neverending glitches and server problems. If you try to buy land and/or make money in this world, you will constantly deal with slow transactions, long hold times, and unresponsive customer support. If you don't like drama or hype, stay away. They used to be very good on privacy, but lately they have implemented a system that requires real life validation to access certain areas of the grid. Finally I would advise that all but the most liberal parents would probably not want their children to have access to the main grid. Even giving them access to the teen grid may encourage them to sneak onto the main grid (which happens often).
