This is one of my Favorite websites. This website is 100% trustable. However, some videos on youtube may not be suitable for children/teens/minors in general (e.g. R Rated Movie Clips, Violence, Hate Speeches Etc). Most of these however usally get taken off.
I am sure YouTube is doing much harm:
- The safety filter is NOT on by default.
- Without that, you get pornographic content even on your main page, even though you never watch such content (just as we do not).
- You need to turn off the safety feature if e.g. you want to watch Christian videos, as those are usually flagged. How can they put pornography and Christian videos into the same category, why not create more?
So even though there is much good content, the way the site is created makes it more harmful than good.
Moreover, there is a SafeSearch function, which doesn't work for many videos. (I guess the uploaders are not penalized if they don't label their videos appropriately.)
Often inappropriate pictures show up after watching a children's video.
If you want to flag a video as inappropriate, you need to tell exactly where the inappropriate content starts (which means you need to watch the video). And even if you do, the video still appears in SafeSearch mode, even after a long time. (Personal experience.)
They keep track of which videos you watched, you can add them to play lists, mark them for viewing later, etc. - but you are absolutely unable to block any video, and any uploader, even from your personal views.
Moreover, there is no way to disable the video suggestions - which means that if you watch YouTube videos with your kids, chances are some inappropriate pictures will pop up from time to time.
So either be on your guard, or just do not use YouTube. Too bad that such a big company is either careless to make appropriate changes to their site, or unable to do so. Although I don't believe the latter is true.
Another issue: There is no way to unflag videos that get blocked for no real reason, and such flagged videos seem to get associated with other videos that in fact contain inappropriate content.
It regularly happens to me that I would like to watch a video that has no violence, no rude language, no sexuality, etc., but perhaps depicting a Christian man --- and the video is not available in safety mode.
(See for example this one on the life of a neurosurgeon, who is also a Christian; the movie does not match any of the reason you can specify when flagging: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbPoDT19hQU)
What is the reason for this? Is it that some people do not like Christians report such videos, and those get flagged without anyone at YouTube checking if in reality it contains inappropriate content? (The above video does not match any of the reasons suggested when reporting; moreover, it depicts things that actually happened to a famous person, and does that in a way that is respectful to everyone.)
Perhaps as a consequence of associating flagged videos with each other, in turn many inappropriate videos get associated with the actually family friendly one --- so it really does seem inappropriate because of the suggestions popping up next to it, which may deceive the viewers. (This is the case for the above movie as well.)
There is no way to "unflag" these videos. That is, to report to YouTube that they were blocked without a reason, and that is should be unblocked. I have the feeling that in the current state of things, anything that a substantial amount of people do not like can get blocked in the long run, despite it being absolutely appropriate. Plus not sure if flagged videos really get associated with each other, as it seems, but it should definitely not happen (as the above example shows); videos can rightly be associated with each other based on their content only.
Good, but... Lately a lot of kids have been joining and it is not meant for kids.... Users can not put up EVERYTHING they desire (which is very good XD) but some inappropriate videos have been known to come up. It DOES have ads. Not popups though. People can display all of their opinions on it, and this is why I put "Opinions, religion, politics".... It's a potential risk to put some kind of identification on there because people can track... <<< Other than that, it's a overall nice website.
