Internet Addiction - is it real?

Internet addictionAre you addicted to the Internet?

Internet addiction is defined by Dr. Jerald Block, as a common compulsive-impulsive disorder that involves online and/or offline computer usage and consists of at least three subtypes:

  • excessive gaming
  • sexual preoccupations
  • email/text messaging

These three subtypes share these characteristics:

  1. excessive use, often associated with a loss of sense of time or a neglect of basic drives
  2. withdrawal, including feelings of anger, tension, and/or depression when the computer is inaccessible
  3. tolerance, including the need for better computer equipment, more software, or more hours of use
  4. negative repercussions, including arguments, lying, poor achievement, social isolation, and fatigue

Take this Internet addiction test to see if you exhibit any of the symptoms, and then maybe take a walk outside and think about the results.

Make sure you vote in our current poll about Internet addiction.

    Good test

    Less than 40 points,
could be a little untrue, but mostly it's right, as I can control my Internet Usage. Great test, I advise others to take it too!

    This is crazy!

I wrote an article on this a week or so. You can read more about it, but I still find it funny.

    This is so true.

Everybody needs to take a break from using the net. There's lots of things to do outside than just sitting around and using the computer.

So go outside, get some fresh air, and do some actual outdoor activities. Get out and Play! Outdoor activities are good for you.

      Bug found?

Hm, looking at your signature, it has a yellow WOT circle. In the translated version of the post, it doesn't.

        Re: Bug found?

Not really a bug, we didn't feel it's necessary for the widget to poll for dynamically added content on normal pages and therefore, rating symbols aren't added to translated messages. That shouldn't be much of a problem though, because the original message is always shown first.
