NEW! Fake anti-malware video

There is an epidemic of fake anti-malware software on the Internet. Marketed under hundreds of different names, such as VirusRemover 2008 and XP Antivirus 2009, this type of rogue software scares users by giving false alarms and then tries to deceive them into paying for removal of non-existing malware.

The new WOT video shows what happens when a legitimate site gets infected and redirected to one of these bogus anti-malware scams. This video is part of a new series  WOT is producing to show you online scams and malware threats in action.

Watch the fake anti-malware video now.

This video is very informative and tells the viewer what they are in for if they should come across malware scanners. I recommend that everyone views this video.

Another way of protection

1. Update your browser and other vulnerable software from unknown exploits and security holes
2. Use Firefox for more consistent protection
3. Use Gmail for spam protection
4. Use SpywareBlaster to block malicious ActiveX and websites for IE
5. Make sure you can access Task Manager anytime (end browser's process to stop infection)

Fake antimalware

The more users who watch this the less likely they are to becoming victims of this ever growing scam, either by clicking links or drive-by downloads which install silently in the background.
These rogues DO make money by using these unscrupulous scare tactics which the unwary and inexperienced users do fall for.
Sadly, many end up out of pocket having found that they have purchased the worthless rogueware and have increased their problems.
Fortunately, a great many also seek assistance, thinking that they have a virus infection that their antivirus will not clear.
The truth is they have a very malicious malware infection which in the majority of cases can be easily removed.
Now to continue educating people and promote WOT :)

Anti Malware Video

I really like the way the Video explains the process of infection. That is the kind of thing I wouldn't mind seeing on TV. A way to warn those that are only part time computer users, those that are the most vulnerable to these types of attacks, Very well done!! Thank you!

May the Good Lord keep you always in His loving arms!
