Join the Safer Internet Day 2011!

safer interner dayToday, 8th of February, organizations and individuals across the world join forces for the annual Safer Internet Day.

The aim of the day is to promote kids’ safer and more responsible use of online technologies.

It’s more than a game, it’s your life!

The slogan of the day, "It’s more than a game, it’s your life!" reminds young people that the virtual world is not unconnected to the real world. As fun as networking and gaming on the web is, careless postings can have unexpected and far-reaching consequences that kids don’t necessarily even notice. Silly photos and comments stay online forever.

Not to mention that the time spent online is away from other, important things in life: According to European Union’s Insafe Network, gamers spend on average 8 hours weekly playing online. Users spend 700 billion minutes on Facebook each month. Meanwhile, young people sleep 2 to 3 hours less per night than 10 years ago, the sleep being a vital factor in a child’s physical and mental growth.

Please participate in the Safer Internet Day by educating kids around you about responsible behavior on the web.

Happy Safer Internet Day!
