This site hijacks your Browser, creates continuous pop up in lower r-hand window that is not caught even though you may have a program that blocks pop ups. They constantly want to "update" one program after another, when you read their webpage, they give the impression that they are authorized by the original vendor of such products to be the service to update your programs...sneaky. I've read all 11 reviews on this WOT site and only one gave a positive review, the other 10 were negative, just as mine is...we all had the same problems with file.org. How is it that WOT gives them a good recommendation? I relied on WOT before I downloaded the file.org update. I would not have done so if they had an unfavorable rating with WOT.

We stopped hosting downloads in early 2016, so this review is not reflecting how the site works today. Since 2016 we started linking directly to developers' sites and host no installers on file.org any longer. It was impossible to make sure all downloads were clean, and it hurt our reputation (and still does) even though we were TRUSTe certified at the time. Now, if you find a link to an external site distributing adware or malware, please let us know and we will promptly remove it.
Popups appear, attempting to download trojans onto your computer. Stay far away.

I do not care what kind of rating WOT has given this site it is not to be trusted. It just goes to show that the ppl rating this website as Good or Safe know nothing about computers and for their own safety as well as the safety of others they should stay off of the computer. I apparently picked up this program from ***** called "File Type Assistant" when I updated my Adobe Reader a couple of days ago. (Although I made sure that all of the extra malware garbage they try to sneak onto your computer was unchecked but I digress) I did not notice any change to my computer until after I rebooted. Once that happened this program completely took over my computer and I could not open any files without a popup coming up telling me that my computer could not find a program to open up said file. The window looks similar to the Microsoft File Association window but more generic. No matter what option I chose from that point (Ok, Cancel, Clicking on the red X) the program immediately opened up my default Web Browser and took me to the ***** website. It then displayed a list of program suggestions to download to view the file. It did not matter what type of file I tried to open (Zip file, Txt file, Word Document, Excel Spreadsheet) anything I opened immediately brought up the popup to redirect me to their ***** website. Thank God I am a very suspicious user by nature and did not download any of the files because after searching around on the internet trying to find out what was causing this problem I found a lot of forums, tech support sites, etc. with comment after comment of how ppl were getting viruses from downloading the files ***** suggested using to view their files. I know it says in big bold letters above the comments that this is a trusted website and program because Norton says so. But that only further proves the point I have been making for years that Symantec's antivirus software is worthless and in most cases it is worse than a lot of the viruses out there. Stay away from this ***** website like it was the Black Death and any other site or company that recommends using them cannot be trusted either. I do not understand why Adobe and Oracle both have decided to embed this garbage into their updates but it is getting bad enough now that I am seriously considering removing Adobe from my computer. Just a helpful suggestion to those that are reading up on File.org, if you do not want to go through the problems like what I described above or any other catastrophe I would suggest turning off Automatic Update for Adobe and Java and only update when you have the time to go through the process manually and thoroughly.

Popups that get through stringent settings and it asks you to click on another link to get the information that you were searching for.

When I now try to select a default application to open a file, in my case a Word file, it hijacks my browser and loads the following page: http://file.org/extension/docx

I downloaded a file opener from file.org and before I opened it I scanned it with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Scanner and there was a VIRUS! That Malwarebytes got rid of for me! So do yourself a favor and don't use this site!
