Neopets is not really THAT bad, but to access some items you have to spend REAL money, and there are ads (some for adults) everywhere! Use NoScript (Firefox addon) to block the ad networks' scripts, and Adblock Plus (Firefox addon) to block the ads.
Watch out in the new NeoMall.. Last Week I caught a terrible Trojan virus that nearly destroyed my computer.. Other than that.. it's an okay site but be mindful that there are ads
Although they have stringent privacy regulations, they do disclose alot of anonymous information to researchers and marketers.
They have unparalleled access to the data regarding the overall behavioural patterns of children and do record this.
Neopets is deader than MySpace and Friendster. They promised they wouldn't ever make it a paysite, that it would always be 100% free, but they've now broken that promise bigtime. When I was seven years old, this was my favorite site ever. I loved my Acara and my Wocky and my Uni and my Ixi so much, especially since I couldn't have real pets due to a family member's allergies. It was so much fun, it was just about the pets and the games. Now it's all about spending real money on virtual jeans and clicking on ads. Not to mention the fact that the Neoboards is totally full of cyberbullying and trolling. The staff are absolutely freaking useless, banning people for no reason at all. When I was about nine and it was just starting to go downhill, my account got suspended for 24 hours because I jokingly said "I'm going to marry a sandwich!" It makes me so sad to see it end up this way; I remember the old days when it was so much fun, and now...

This website has gotten so bad since it was sold to Viacom, that it is now about to be the defendant in a class action law suit. Don't take my word for it. Check out the link I gave at the start of this post. Then google BBB in California and see all the complaints about neopets.com they have. This is really bad!
Varied and entertaining games and content. 95% of accounts that are frozen deserve to be and 95% of those are returned if requested, after investigation. Excellent site on which I spend a lot of time and have had many very good experiences in all regards. Recommend highly for children, children and their parents together, and adults.
Unless you pay for a subscription, there is no way to communicate with this website. My account was frozen for being 'hijacked' (something only I would be able to notice), froze it for my 'protection' and then never unfroze it. What exactly the point of that was I will never know, as they do not respond to emails. This started out as an amazing website but after Viacom bought it, literally everything changed to make more money. They changed the actual layout of the website to allow bigger ads for crying out loud. Right now everything is centred around making money. There are plenty of pet websites out there that will not make your child feel like it has to spend money to have a fun time.
