As a user of the software I can confirm that there is no devious malware activity occurring with this software. I have had this installed on dozens of machines all with enterprise level anti-virus and firewall protection. I believe based on my own independent opinions that a lot of the negative hype about this site has been generated from the whitesmoke trojan. Some have linked to Isearch.whitesmoke.com which installs a search engine in the toolbar.... clearly very different functionality than the whitesmoke.com translation software. I am told that some antivirus applications may provide a false positive with some of the code which is often the case with legitimate software. Some or most of the ratings may have been auto-generated by antivirus programs and site scan details automatically sent to a "community" for the respective antivirus which then feeds into the WOT ratings. N.B. I am happy to be informed of how the WOT ratings are gathered if I am not correct. I'm not a WOT hater either. Opinion can be influenced by group think.
So, while I am open to others opinion, it is my opinion that the whitesmoke translation software available at www.whitesmoke.com is not a virus, does not install a search bar on your browser nor does it attempt to change any browser settings. It's safe and secure. At least a few users who have contributed their rating comments here have stated that their security has not been compromised in any way. I hope this has added some fair opinion and perspective.
You know, I have been using this site, using their product, requesting support, and they have done everything with the highest degree of integrity. The only annoying pop-ups I see are those that warn me to stay away. How about this, Owner of this site come on out and tell us why you have been cast as a bad site and what you plan to do to fix that rating. WOT, how about giving this site a break as I have other sites I visit that try to keep me on; it is no different than the salesman at the furniture store who won't stop talking to keep you in the store a little longer. How about the car salesman who keeps running inside to talk to his boss? Yes, sites as well as brick businesses can be a pain, but at the end of the day they are just trying to make a living.
I am in no way affiliated with this site, I am simply a satisfied customer.

I found the product to be recommended on a writer's blog, but when I clicked on the URL, WOT popped up saying the product web site has a poor rating. I read WOT user comments and noted that the most recent ones were all positive, so I figured the problem had been fixed, and clicked on through to the web site.
As soon as I arrived at the site, a browser window popped up saying that the site was trying to download an application. Then my security software said I had been infected with malware -- all this before I even got a chance to look at the web site.
Try software from reputable sites, such as ***** or wordnsync.com's Edittools or PerfectIt.
Having read the comments, I have to disagree. Being dyslexic I have found this an excellent site and really helpful.
It is a little slow with large documents, which you need to break down into segments.
It works well on my mac and have had no problem with malware or pop ups, which are easily blocked should they become a problem.
I tried their grammar checker and the result : they are worse than I thought. In some cases they are absolutely laughable. Try another service but definitely not this one.
This site definitely deserves its bad reputation. I bought one of their products two years ago and was reasonable happy with it (English spelling and grammar). Unfortunately they convinced me soon after to buy an upgrade which, when I installed it, permanently disabled the previous version (disallows re-installation) and had some extremely annoying features which made it unusable for me..
They also send daily spam and try their best to annoy you in any other way they can.
As a site, no problems. Product is very useful, I put all my writing through it. Some dubious analysis, though. Still, you can't expect it to be perfect. I get lots of email, despite buying full product. I have not noticed any credit card irregularities. I have comprehensive protection on my PC, and it has not identified problems relating to Whitesmoke.
This is what I found on *****
"Posted on July 6th, 2011 in Removed Domains by dglosser
whitesmoke. com has requested removal from our list. It is being temporarily delisted while we investigate their request."
Someone posted that WhiteSmoke is malware simply because they are listed on *****
This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard
MalwareDomains listed WhiteSmoke because some other unknown website listed them AND if you visit MalwareDomains now you'll see their post where they delisted whitesmoke and are investigating the issue.
Great product, and great service. I used their chat on the website and they were extremely helpful and nice. Plus there software is much better than MS Word.
