I don't have any problems with this site, even with ads. I use IE 8 that I modified so it block all pop-ups if I accidentaly click on ad. If you use Firefox, you can download Adblock which is very useful. Neopets is fun for me (I'm 11 years old) and I hope it is fun for all kids and even some adults. Remember that there is NO fast way to get million or more neopoints. Don't use Neopoints generator because it often contains viruses and it will send your username and password to scammer that will take your neopoints. And don't send e-mails to anyone who requires from you your password and username. TNT will never ask you your password! Someone said that the main goal of Neopets is to enjoy with your pets, not to be rich. The only thing that I don't like about Neopets is I can't access the Neoboard because I am under 13. And If I want to access it my parents must write that they allow me to access to Neoboards and then they should send that to USA address. It's a bit stupid for me, because I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is of course far away from USA. But at least you can play games and interact with your pets. I think pets on Neopets are so cute, especially a species called Xweetok. I would give this site A-, because I can't go on Neoboards . I'm sorry on my bad English.
When i was 8 im using this site and doesn't have a problems but 2 years later... they have ads and pop-ups all over the place and some of the ads and pop-ups are not related to their own site and some of them are for adults. why they accept adult ads when this is for kids?
Known for freezing users with little to no investigation, including one of my former accounts. According to Neopets I'd bought and sold neopoints for real money, but I'd never done such a thing. I'm now given to understand that some users who are jealous of your statistics will sometimes put up auctions on ebay, etc. under your username. Neopets evidently does not bother to confirm the identity of those auctioning items.
It is not difficult to find reports on any Neopets-related site about people who were frozen but will swear up and down that they didn't do anything wrong (probably because they didn't!!).
Way back when I was 12 and first joined it was a pretty good site, but now, when I see it for nostalgia sake, it has a lot of ads. Junk food, mortgages, loans, credit scores, cell phones, laptops, etc... It's everywhere and floods every page. Caprisun, Ringpops, and Lunchables even have game advertisements to promote their products even more. For children under 10, they may get pulled into a "free" laptop or ipod phishing scam and children over 10 will find the site boring and go somewhere else.
In my experience, Neopets can freeze your account for any reason they feel necessary and will not give it back to you - even if you had no idea you did anything wrong. I was frozen because they had thought I had willingly given my password to a scammer in hopes of getting items or neopoints (of course, I didn't). They ignored my e-mails asking for evidence or at least a better explanation in favor of preaching to me about how wrong it was to cheat and to never give my password out to anyone. Essentially every response was pre-written and did not help me understand the situation. Eventually they stopped replying to me.
If you're okay with the fact that you or your child's account can be revoked at any time even if you don't break any rules, then by all means play Neopets. Don't buy NeoCash or a subscription though, it'd be a shame if any more people wasted real money on this game.
There are way too many flash ads and popups unless you have adblock or you pay for premium. The staff is either slow to answer your email or does not answer you at all! And when they do, even if it isn't your fault your account got hacked, or frozen they will say they can't do anything about it.
This site is a very, very safe site compared to a lot of other sites geared towards children. They are also very good about keeping everything monitored so although for older people it might feel a little too Big Brother-ish, it is comforting to know that you can at least go on there to relax. (I myself have been playing on and off on that site for 8 years now.)
Some of the ads are geared towards older people, but they are nothing to worry about if you have the adblocker add-on for Firefox. :)
I definitely suggest this website to any parent looking for a good, safe place for their kids.
Sure the games are fun and such, but I have never once seen an ad that was child-friendly, save for the ones they post about things going on on the site. I really don't reccomend letting your children play this game, and especially not on the forums. Most people prowling them are rather rude and have no sense of morality ect. Just, if you want to play, stick to things that don't involve interaction with other players of the site.
