Mary Baker Eddy discovered Christian Science as a young woman when she was healed while studying the Bible. I was brought up in the Christian Science church. My parents were loving and encouraging but allowed me, when I was old enough, to make my own decisions about healthcare. You would find that the AMA has determined that prayer has a significant positive effect on the outcome of medical treatments. I have been in the care of doctors who are very respectful of Scientists and prayer. My paternal Grandfather was diagnosed with TB in his college years at Cornell. The doctor did not hold out much hope him. His roommate was a Christian Scientist and shared his knowledge. The doctor was stunned to find no sign of the disease months later. My Mother was declared dead in an emergency room after a terrible attack of Polio. She survived but was given very little hope. Her father-in-law (my paternal Grandfather) shared his knowledge of Christian Science. The nurses encouraged her to refuse the high doses of morphine. She had to work hard to overcome the numerous negative medical opinions and doubts. She enjoyed a wonderful life as a Christian Scientist to age 78.
