Though Elsevier represent a significant amount of scientific publishing, this company has serious issues with price gouging, a lack of peer review amongst various titles it maintains, deliberate placement of non-peer reviewed articles in periodicals for the purpose of promoting the interests of private companies, interference in various universities' self archived online pieces that were independently published.
