Is fonts.gstatic.com Safe?

NoScript blocks it by default. I don't know, but imagine not on account of the site itself but (still guessing) because font scripts are used for malicious purposes elsewhere. On the other hand, it's Google. I am continually amazed to see users claiming a site is OK purely on the grounds that it belongs to google, which apart from being the biggest predator on the internet and the most committed to completely destroying any vestige of privacy, also owns the internets biggest malicious software host, the android play store. In practical terms, web site usability is undermined for Noscript users when pages fail until the user makes an exception for a totally unnecessary script. I very much doubt that google will cause web sites to be littered with scripts that have no benefit to the user unless there's an unpublicised benefit to google. So I'm not at all confident in lack of malice,even if it's only more tracking data.
