Is games.softpedia.com Safe?

This is the server domain hosting gaming software. If there ever was an encyclopaedia of software, then Softpedia will be it. Softpedia provides numerous software for download with a wide array of categories, and great selections in major operating systems, and useful reviews provided by its editors and users.

In response to the several malicious posted here: Softpedia *does* have a testing policy for the posted software. Before being posted, all new or updated programs are downloaded from the producer's website, installed, tested and scanned with several industry-leading security solutions. Software that is found free from any kind of malware or adware is marked as "100% Free" (for freeware) or "100% Clean" (for shareware/demo/trial). If the tested program contains viruses/trojans or the like, it is *not* posted, or it is removed if it was an update to an existing Softpedia software listing. If the test reveals toolbars or other forms of adware, the program is posted but is clearly marked with a notice that informs the user about the third-party components included. One more thing to note: there are some rare cases when a program is marked as clean but users find that it contains adware or the like. This happens because the developer of the program changed the software installation kit without informing us, therefore we could not test the updated file. Hopefully this clears up the discussion.
