I "upgraded" from a TomTom One to a Go60. New models no longer have a proper application for updating and maintenance, but instead relies in a highly unreliable flash based service. Long story short : After the first software and map update my brand new GPS was rendered utterly useless... "No Maps Available". No reset or recovery procedure worked. Returning this for a refund and switching to Garmin.

This comment is in specific reference to TomTom MyDrive. It's a decent enough web interface; the connection between device and computer can be fussy sometimes, and the crowdsourced map updates sometimes don't show up as transferred. Overall, it's not bad. There's nothing here that would offend a parent unless children have grown so devoid of agency that they'll see a GPS device and start hotwiring the family car as a result. My only complaint: TomTom was in the spotlight a few years ago for selling accumulated data on travel speeds of TomTom users to law enforcement agencies, many of which used that information to site traffic cameras/locate speed traps. Hopefully they've stopped trying to milk every revenue stream possible by abusing the trust of their users thusly. As the degree of collusion between State and Capital becomes harder and harder to ignore, it seems more and more doubtful that they'd do the ethical thing.
