I'm not about to endorse ANYTHING provided by this company. Talk about detrimental to the fight against net nuetrality! Let me explain why. Progs like the comodo verification engine as first seem like a great idea, made to ensure the validity of things like the verisign seals you see on a lot of ecommerce websites. IT'S BUNK! Quote taken directly from the faq on how it works : "Today, larger sites and most banks are registered with us. Smaller sites that don't display the green border could be legitimate - but be sure to check out their other trust credentials like being hacker proof. Then decide for yourself whether to purchase from that merchant." ***** I can tell you how this service is going to be used to pressure smaller companies, retailers and website owners who ARE completely legit into paying the costs of being added to the comodo database, as well as possibly being protected under their "hacker proof" protection services (yeah, go ahead and call it extortion if ya want that's what it is). When comodo gets a request from verificationengine users by dropping an email, comodo will turn right around and take the businesses' name and domain and attack them by approaching them with all kinds of pressure full of figures and persuasions like the number of people that are either afraid to or refuse to buy from them because they don't have a silly little green glow around their seal when a comodo user does a mouseover on it. So the little guys will be pressured into paying anywhere from 30 bucks a month or more for services that really don't do squat for them. IT DOESN"T HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS. WE HAVE GOT TO WORK TOGETHER TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THINGS LIKE THIS AND HELP PEOPLE TO LEARN THAT COMMON SENSE CAN PREVAIL OVER FEAR AND PARANOIA. Because if we don't they're gonna take this net nuetrality thing and companies like Comodo IP Ltd 7 Campus Rd Bradford, Yorkshire BD7 1HR, UNITED KINGDOM +44 1274730505, Fax: +44 ***** who use people that don't know any better to drive the little guys out of business, and before you know it the internet is gonna be nothing more than a great big walmart. This thing sounds like it works similar to web beacons coooperating with third party cookies (I don't know about you but I don't like the idea of it making modifications to the way my browser runs - with a little green border around it sounds like a kiosk) on the user/client end - something I abhor and do not allow (because that's how some companies like ***** and ***** are stealing cc info and using it across multiple domains). No way no how. I do not trust this company (notice it's British owned too - yes, I know ewido is british owned but they're a good company not like these dirtbags) AT ALL. I hope you all understand the gravity of this and what it can and probably will mean if we do nothing. Their DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY found at ***** releases them from any liability in the event of user displeasure: "The program is provided to you "as is" by Comodo and any use by you of the program is at your own risk. Comodo does not wa rant that the program will operate substantially in accordance with the documentation accompanying the program. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Comodo disclaims all warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, in equity or at law, including, without limitation, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Comodo does not warrant that the functions contained in the program will meet any Service offering extended to Include On-Demand requIrements or needs you may have or that the program wIII operate error free or In an uninterrupted fashion, or that any efects or errors in the program will be corrected, or that the program is compatible with any particular platform. Some jurisdictions do not allow the waiver or exclusion of implied warranties so they may not apply to you." EVERYONE please see this for what it REALLY IS. A BIG LOAD, someones idea on how to use ignorant computer users/consumers to extort (not just)small websites and web companies. I'll be listening and looking for ideas on how to send a message to comodo group in a big way that their scheme has been exposed. Will probably begin by listing them in other consumer watch places. www.zdnetasia.com/downloads/ pc/swinfo/0,39043052,39167715s,00.htm
